Designed in 1956 by Jean Pauchard, the TOLIX A56 Armchair has become a true classic of 20th-century furniture. Originally created to meet the needs of terraces and cafés, the A56 is not only functional but also stackable— in the 1950s, 25 stacked units reached no more than 2.3 meters in height. Available in steel, the A56 comes in its classic form or as a 5cm taller version (A56+), offering versatility for a range of uses.
The A56 Armchair shares the same design principles as its predecessor, the A Chair. Each stage of production—from stamping and bending to brazing and polishing—takes place in TOLIX’s workshops, where skilled artisans ensure every detail is perfect. These unique handcrafted processes, which earned TOLIX the distinction of a Living Heritage Company, bring exceptional quality and character to each product.
As with the A Chair, the A56 Armchair is available in three exclusive finishes that only TOLIX’s expert teams can perfect.
